 Q) What is Freesat?

A) Freesat is a free satellite service that is provided by the BBC and ITV to enable free viewing, with the appropriate satellite equipment from the astra 2 platform (the same place that sky broadcast from)

 Q) What equipment do I need to receive this service?

A) Effectively any satellite receiver is capable of receiving this service including the sky digi box (this receiver will enable you to view all the Freesat channels with sky’s own version of EPG) combined with either a sky mini dish/L.n.b or any satellite dish 45cm and above with a universal L.n.b

 Q) Why should I buy a Freesat box then?

A) The main difference between the Freesat box and any other box is the EPG (electronic programme guide) you will get at least a full weeks worth on the Freesat box but any other receiver will only show the next programme (at the moment)

 Q) What about the high definition?

A) This is where Freesat will take off , you can purchase a HD Freesat box and watch the BBC, ITV, CH4 etc. HD channels without having to pay a subscription, the hard drive versions will enable recordings via the EPG for ease of use, other HD satellite receivers will work with the channels ok and record (the hard drive versions) but you will have to use the VCR type timer to set the recording times as you only have the next programme available on the EPG

 Q) Can I use a sky H/D box to view the Freesat H/D channels?

A) You can use a sky H/D box to view the Freesat channels but unless you subscribe to at least the minimum package you will not be able to use the hard drive facility on the sky H/d box , the EPG will be sky”s own version and not the Freesat s EPG

 Q) Can I connect a Freesat box to the spare outputs on my existing sky dish ?

A) If you already have sky and wish to add a Freesat box as well, you can connect to your existing dish (if you have a quad output L.n.b fitted and have a spare outlet) and you will be able to use them both at the same time

 Q) Can I get Freesat outside the UK?

A) Freesat are broadcasting on the Astra 2D spot beam so it produces the same level as the same channels on the sky platform so you will still need a large dish in Spain, Portugal Sweden etc. for instance

 Q) What channels can I get at the moment
